Mission Statement

Hello and good day!

My name is Vinson Vanevenhoven and I am the Cubmaster for Castaic Cub Scout Pack 580. I would personally like to welcome you to our Pack.

I am sure that your purpose for getting your child(ren) involved in Scouting is similar to mine. We all want our kids to grow into adults of great character and become great leaders.  Because society has changed so much, there is not enough focus on our children becoming great citizens. The Scouting program is a great way to make sure our kids can be involved in a positive activity that will help build character, meet like-minded friends, and have fun doing it!

Scouting is fun with a purpose. It is our mission to be a positive influence in the life of your child that will help him/her learn to be a good citizen, have good character, and to be a healthy, self confident young adult. We do this through a program of activities that will teach lessons of self-worth, the importance of community, and helping others.

At the beginning of each school year, Scouts are organized into groups called “Dens” according to their grade (K through 5th).  These Scout Dens and their parents meet 1-2 times a month to work on their achievements. Whether it be a fun game, experiment, outing, or service project, each achievement is an age appropriate lesson that will educate, entertain, and inspire.  As these achievements are completed, each year the Scouts progress in rank: Lion to Tiger to Wolf to Bear, then into Webelos to AOL, which is a bridge between Cubs and Scouts BSA.

Dens all come together once a month to meet as a Pack, where all achievements are recognized and awarded, as well as fun activities that all scouts will participate in.  Some months, there are also additional Pack activities planned such as an outing, tour, hike, beach trip, or campout.  All activities are fun for the scouts and their families as well.

Our Pack leaders and parents try to keep our Scouts on a path of citizen training, character development, and personal fitness. As our scouts earn a new rank each year, they are also doing so alongside the other Scouts, developing friendships that will last a lifetime.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss our program in more detail, I would be happy to discuss them with you.  Feel free to email me at anytime. I am glad that you chose our Pack and look forward to the great Scouting experiences that we will have together!
