Castaic Cub Scout Pack 580 Update - January 2017

Busy Times!

Pack 580 has been hard at work over the last few months!

We have participated in 3 community service projects. In November, we passed out water to thirsty runners at Water Station #1 for the Santa Clarita Marathon. What a great way of supporting our local athletes! In December, Scouts entertained Seniors with holiday songs at the Pacifica Assisted Living Facility in Newhall. We saw lots of smiles on the residents’ faces as we sang, and then passed out handmade cards and candy canes. Also, in December we helped to give back to our Charter Organization, the Castaic Lions Club, by helping to sort several pallets of canned and boxed food products that were donated during the weeklong run of the Lion’s Club’s Santa Float. By participating in service projects such as these the boys of Pack 580 learn many life lessons about giving back to the community.

Our dens have all been busy working on their den level requirements during this time as well! In addition to having den meetings to earn achievements, the whole pack got together on January 16 for a hike around Hart Park, learning about our local history, wildlife and plant life along the way. Tigers were busy learning about healthy behaviors and activities. Wolves learned about communication skills and about coins. Bears earned the coveted Whittling chip by learning pocket knife safety and Webelos learned first aid skills. Finally, our Webelos 2 scouts are finishing up the last few requirements for their Arrow of Light awards before bridging to Boy Scouts. We cannot wait to see all the awards from their hard work presented to the boys at our Blue and Gold Banquet in February!

Pack 580 is located in Castaic, CA - bringing together boys from 1st grade through 5th grade. We hold monthly Pack meetings with all members of the pack, as well as Den meetings, where each group (1st Grade - Tigers, 2nd Grade - Wolves, 3rd Grade - Bears, 4th Grade - Webelos 1, and 5th Grade - Webelos 2) gets together for fun activities, developing friendships that will last a lifetime!
